Mr Kantan Komlan, District NYI Leader & Pastor
Mathias Salifu, JESUS Film Coordinator
The NYI team on the Ghana North District organized a week-long GOL soccer camp. Before the camp began, youth leader Mr Kantan, and JESUS Film Coordinator Mr Salifu, challenged the youth to visit nearby homes to pray with families, visit the sick, and invite each young person to participate in the soccer camp. The team welcomed 540 children, youth, and adults to the camp. “GOL”, a worldwide evangelism strategy for the Church of the Nazarene associated with the World Cup soccer event being hosted in South Africa in June and July 2010, is a widely understood sports term meaning to score.
Activities included use of the EvangeCube and the GOL evangelism soccer ball to communicate the message of salvation. The EvangeCube is made up of eight blocks and strategic points which illustrate God’s plan for salvation through Jesus’ death and resurrection. It simply and clearly unfolds the gospel of Jesus Christ… the answer to life’s greatest puzzle. The evangelism soccer ball is a five-colors wordless book with each color representing a part of the story of God’s love for all mankind.
Ten participants confessed Christ as their Saviour. “There was great joy and unity in the body as we all shared a locally prepared meal called ‘Akpele’ which is made out of grounded maize meal,” said Mr. Kantan.
