In July 2009 the first class promotion of the NYI Ministries School in Brazil was held. The school was developed out of the need to train youth leaders on the Brazil districts of the Church of the Nazarene. The curriculum of the school is composed of materials specific to the context of youth ministry in general, including subjects such as Doctrine, Biblical Hermeneutics as well as other subjects that aim to develop the spiritual growth of youth leaders and the youth they minister to.
19 students were promoted at the event and their families and friends were in attendance. Rev. Geraldo Nunes Filho, Principal of the Nazarene College in Brazil, shared the word to those assembled. Rev. Filho challenged all who attended to be committed to this generation of youth. Other attendees were Rev. Alexmar Fonseca (NYI Field Coordinator for the Southeastern Field in Brazil), Rev. Nunes Vagner (NYI District President for São Paulo District), Alexander Lee (District President of the Southern Paulista District) Mariana Pereira (National NYI Executive Secretary), Meliza, Edson Moura (National Bible Quizzing), Rev. Flavio Barbosa, Alexandre César da Silva, and the entire national NYI leadership and coordinators for the program.
During the ceremony, NYI leadership gave the Timothy Award to Rev. Alexandre César da Silva, former National NYI President in Brazil and the creator of the Ministries School, in recognition of his twenty years of effective ministry with youth in the Church the Nazarene in Brazil. His ministerial journey of over twenty-two yearswas highlighted during the ceremony.
