New at the Academy! From Barefoot Ministries: A four-part lesson series designed to help your students verbalize their questions.

Young people may equate inferiority with humility and self-esteem with sinful pride. Although self-esteem can't be geared around the idea of "feeling good" about oneself, it is about learning to understand that we are children of God and each loved as a child of God. This unit will enable your students to believe that God created each person "good" on purpose, and with the capacity to love and be loved.

Lesson 1: Self-Esten = Value--Many people, including Christians, struggle with the concept of a positive-self image. The basis of self-esteem is this: We are valuable for no other reason than because God loves us. (Genesis 1:27-28, 31; Psalm 139:1-18; Matthew 6:26)

Lesson 2: Accepting Myself--We can develop healthy self-esteem when we begin to see and accept ourselves as God does. (Psalm 103:13-18; 1 Corinthians 1:26-31; 2 Corinthians 12:8-10)

Lesson 3: Maintaining a Healthy Humility--Healthy self-image finds a middle ground between arrogance and self-persecution, based on biblical understanding of humility. (Proverbs 11:2; Acts 7:25; 1 Corinthians 12:7-21; Philippians 2:3; 1 Peter 2:9-10)

Lesson 4: Building Self-Esteem in Others--Christians are accountable to each other and are responsible for nurturing each other. (Hebrews 10:23-25; 1 Corinthians 12:12-21)
